Overcoming Depression with Homeopathy

Depression is a medical term applied to many symptoms and presentations. For every person suffering with the depression, there are different causes, precipitating factors, and symptoms.

Medical doctors consider depression a biochemical disorder and treat it with just a few antidepressants (selective seratonin re-uptake inhibitors like Prozac) that are supposed to fit everybody. While some patients get relief from their low moods, many others suffer a variety of unpleasant adverse effects. The most frequent side effects of SSRI antidepressants are sexual dysfunction, movement disorders, apathy, and weight gain, to name just a few.

Antidepressants usually have only a palliative effect, meaning that they suppress the symptoms of unfavorable moods, but do not deal with the underlying imbalance in the body.

Homeopathy Heals Depression

Many people with depression have been helped by homeopathy with no toxic side effects. Homeopathy does not force the biochemical change in the brain chemistry. Instead, it stimulates the body's self-healing mechanismand the brain chemistry changes naturally as the person recovers from the depression.

The homeopath looks at every person with depression individually. She looks for what is different in this person who experiences depression from all others. Homeopathy is holistic and in order to find a correct homeopathic remedy, the homeopath will look not only at the emotional symptoms but also at any physical symptoms, the family history of the disease, the persons' food preferences and so on.

For example, the homeopathic remedy Aurum is often used for depression in people who are overly responsible, hard workers, angry, sad, tense, and may have heart problems.

Another homeopathic remedy, Sepia, is often used for depression with irritability, fatigue, sarcasm, frequent weeping, and feeling overwhelmed. Sepia is often prescribed to women with hormonal complaints and is the most frequently used remedy for postpartum depression.

After taking a correct homeopathic remedy, patients often report ncreased energy and uplifted moods after about a month of the homeopathic treatment. One can use homeopathy while taking mood-altering drugs. After homeopathy produces positive changes in other symptoms, you will be able to work with your prescribing physician to gradually withdraw the drugs.

Recent research found that homeopathy can be effective in treating depression and anxiety in patients with mild to severe symptomatic complaints.
