Eczema, Not Just Skin Deep.
I frequently see in my office mother, father, and a little toddler whose skin is red, peeling, cracking and may be bleeding. Eczema is frequent in children, especially in toddlers. It is estimated that 10% of population suffer from eczema, and it usually manifests itself during the first year of life. Since my son Alexander was three years old, he had eczema. We've been to many doctors with that problem. Whenever doctors prescribed him any medication the relief was only temporarily, and his eczema kept coming back. I was in despair, until one day I found Masha Rosen. She gave me a sense of confidence that with her help eczema will go away. In about a month of starting working with Masha I saw a tremendous result. After three months I was looking at the skin of my son and couldn't believe that in such a short time frame the condition of his skin has changed so much. His skin was almost clear. We are very grateful to Masha. She is a great specialist and a wonderful person. I refer all my friends and relatives to Masha. Eczema is usually described as an irritation of the skin with dryness, itching, redness, sometimes weeping, crusting, and flaking. The frequent locations of eczema are cheeks, trunk, bends of the joints, but it may appear anywhere on the skin. Eczema is usually an inherited problem. A research shows that if one parent has hay fever, eczema, or asthma, there is a 50% chance that the child will have one or more of these conditions. Eczema is not just a skin problem, but is considered a systemic disorder, a skin manifestation of allergies. Parents can do a lot in order to alleviate the eczema at home by reducing the common allergens from their child's environment and diet. The main allergy-producing foods are dairy, wheat, soy, processed foods, nuts, and peanuts. Children with eczema should reduce their sugar consumption. Sugar depresses the immune system for 2 hours after ingestion, making your child more susceptible to secondary infection on top of eczema, especially if the skin is broken. Avoid processed foods. They frequently have dyes. Red, Yellow and Blue dyes can strongly contribute to allergies and eczema. Parents should use only environmentally green products at home. Environmental toxins can trigger eczema. These toxins include perfumes, scents, dyes, coloring agents, laundry detergents, and cleaning chemicals. Probiotics are a group of friendly bacteria that improve the intestinal flora. The best probitotic for eczema is the one that has among other strains Lactobaccilus rhamnosus. A homeopathic remedy Histaminum may alleviate an allergic reaction during a bad eczema flair up. Take Histaminum 30C 4 times a day when eczema is extremely itchi. I usually discourage parents from using corticosteroid cremes for eczema. Steroid creams do not solve the problem of eczema, they only mask it. Over time, steroid creams may suppress the immune system and cause more serious problem, like asthma or digestive disorders. The topical creams that are safe to use for a baby with eczema are Eucerin, Calendula Ointment by Weleda (do not use if your child is allergic to peanut oil), Califlora Caledula Cream by B&T, pure MSM cream by TriMedica (make sure that your child is not allergic to Sulphur before using this product). Homeopathy can be very useful in healing the eczema. Unlike conventional steroid creams, homeopathy can resolve the problem on a deeper level and completely clear the skin. Eczema and Food Allergies, a Case Study I saw Ivan in my office when he was 4.5 yeas old. His parents tried everything, from conventional medicine to acupuncture, but nothing seemed to help Ivan eczema. Homeopathy was the family's last resort. Ivan was waking up with a very bad itch every night and his mother had to use a special spray in order to alleviate the itch and let him sleep. His skin was red and dry in many places. He had strong food allergies and could only eat rather limited diet. In addition, Ivan was getting sick often and antibiotics would flair up his eczema in a bad way. I gave Ivan a homeopathic remedy Sulphur 6C based on his individual symptoms. I saw Ivan monthly over the course of 6 months. My last appointment with him was a month ago. His skin is absolutely clear now. His mom said that they recently could even give Ivan pizza and he had absolutely no digestive symptoms and no skin problems. He goes to a kindergarten now and is not getting sick so often. (The name was changed to preserve the patient's privacy). |
