Do You Need Help with Headaches?

Homeopathy for Hormonal Imbalance

Almost everybody has a headache once in a while, but some people suffer from recurrent headaches. This can be debilitating, leaving the sufferers incapacitated for days or even weeks.

There are many different types of headaches. The common ones are migraines, tension headaches and sinus headaches.

The most frequently occurring type of headache is the tension headache, usually caused by stress and muscle fatigue.  Frequent stretches throughout the day for the upper back and neck may prevent tension headache.  Relaxing with a cup of calming tea, like chamomile or mint, may help prevent a tension headache before it develops.  Daily tension headaches may be connected to depression or other emotional problems.

Migraine headaches are the most common type of chronically occurring headache. They are caused by a spasm of the arteries supplying the brain, and are frequently one-sided. Migraine sufferers often experience nausea and visual disturbances alongside their head pain. Migraines are often connected to dietary sensitivities, stress, hormonal imbalance, and environmental triggers.

A sinus headache can occur when the sinus cavities around your nose and eyes become inflamed. The most frequent causes of sinus headache are allergies (e.g. dust mites and pollen) and food sensitivities, especially to dairy products. A neti pot or other form of nasal irrigation may help sooth your sinuses. A tincture of the buds of European Hornbean can heal the nasal mucosa and significantly reduce the sinus headaches.

Homeopathy can be a great help for many headache sufferers. If you have only occasional headaches, you may be able to use homeopathic remedies on your own to get rid of the pain.

For chronic headaches, you should seek the help of a professional homeopath, whose training will allow selection of a remedy based your overall state of health:  the symptoms of your headache, other mental, physical, and emotional symptoms, as well as your health history.

The following remedies are commonly used for headache relief:

Natrum muriaticum is one of the most frequently chosen remedies for chronic headaches. People who benefit from this remedy are usually sensitive emotionally and try to protect themselves from being emotionally hurt by distancing themselves from others. The headache is usually pressing, like a vise. There could be nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light. The headache is significantly worse in the sun.

Belladonna is often used with bursting head pain. The sufferer feels like his eyes will pop out, or her head will explode. The pain is worse from heat or from jarring, and can be aggravated by lying down (increased blood flow to the head). There could be flushing or severe vomiting. The Belladonna headache sufferer may find some pain relief from binding the hair tightly.

Sepia officinalis headaches are left-sided and can be worse around the menstrual periods. These headaches are typically better from vigorous exercise. The Sepia headache may develop at the onset of menstruation, during pregnancy or at menopause.

Bryonia alba is useful for left-sided headaches that are worse from any jar or motion, especially bending the head forward. There is usually great thirst. Sufferers often want to lie flat, and do not want to be talked to or be disturbed in any way, as any slight movement can aggravate the pain of the Bryonia headache.

Select a homeopathic remedy for your headache and use it in the potency 30C. These remedies are readily available in the health food stores. During an acute episode of a head pain, take the remedy every 2 hours, 3 pellets under the tongue.   If the pain subsides right away, you do not need to repeat the remedy, however, if the pain does not subside in a few hours, switch to another remedy.

These remedies will only help during acute episodes of head pain. If you have a tendency to chronic headaches, you will need help of a professional homeopath.
