Worried About Swine Flu? See How Homeopathy Can Help!

Homeopathy for Swine FluHomeopathy has a long history of successfully fighting the flu. It proved to be very successful during the horrible Spanish Flu pandemic in 1918. According to the report of the American Institute of Homeopathy in 1921, the death rate of the 24,000 flu cases under conventional medical care was 28.2%, while the death rate of the 26,000 flu cases under homeopathic care was 1.05%.

The Homeopathic Medical Society of the District of Columbia reported fifteen hundred cases of flu with only fifteen deaths. In Ohio's National Homeopathic Hospital, the recovery rate from the flu was 100%. Dr. T. A. McCann, MD, Dayton, Ohio reported that of the 1,000 cases of influenza, there were no deaths reported.

Homeopathy is a form of holistic medicine that uses minute doses of natural substances to stimulate the body to heal itself. This natural medicine is safe and does not cause any side effects. You can use homeopathic remedies concurrently with conventional medicines. Homeopathy is based on the principle "like cures like". The substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person will heal the same symptoms in a sick person.

The best way of preventing any acute illness, including flu, is to keep your immune system strong. Make sure you get adequate amount of sleep, try to reduce stress, eat well, drink enough water, and wash your hands frequently.

Homeopathy may prove to be very helpful yet again if the current Swine Flu epidemic becomes a pandemic. During epidemics, two main methods are used in homeopathy, one is a homeopathic remedy made from the microbe itself (called a nosode) and another one a remedy that matches the symptoms of an epidemic, called genus epidemicus.

No homeopathic remedy has been made from the Swine Flu virus yet, however we know that the new virus contains DNA of Influenza Type A and Type B, Asian Influenza, Swine Flu, and Avian flu. The homeopathic remedy, Influenzinum, which is developed every year from the flu vaccine, is currently the closest homeopathic nosode that we have. It may be taken in 30C potency once a week for prevention,  and 3 times per day if somebody around you gets sick with the flu or if you feel like you are developing symptoms yourself.

Another homeopathic remedy that is frequently used for flu prevention is called Oscillococcinum. It should be taken at the first signs of a flu. Studies conducted in France and Germany, and published in both the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology (1989) and the British Homeopathic Journal (1998), showed a significant shortening of the regular flu duration in patients taking Oscillococcinum.  This remedy can also be taken preventatively once a week.

If your flu symptoms develop further, you can take other homeopathic remedies that fit your symptoms better. During the deadly Spanish Flu of 1918 the two homeopathic remedies that were useful for almost all flu cases were Gelsemium and Bryonia. Those remedies are used frequently during a winter flu season, and are just some of those that may be indicated in the current outbreak. It is currently unclear what symptoms are associated with the current strand of the Swine Flu, but the presenting symptoms of the illness are always the best guide to remedy selection.

It is always better to see a professional homeopath for better results if you are getting sick.

Many natural health practitioners are urging us not to panic, stating that it is not currently clear if Spanish Flu is indeed a deadly strain, nor if it will become a pandemic.
